This initiative began during the peak of Covid. Pandemic restrictions and the choice to use an analogue portrait camera both created special constraints, as face masks could be removed only for a few minutes in front of the camera, which only held 15 images per roll of film, resulting in some discernible tension in the final images.
Reza invites viewers to imagine who the people in the portraits could be and to spin their stories. The imagined backstories will be displayed along with the images so as to create an evolving display of potential alternate “realities.”
